16. Cholesterol

The outside wall of every cell in your body contains a fatty, waxy type of substance known as cholesterol. It is a lipid (or fat) which helps with hormone production, cell maintenance, digestion, and other vital functions. It is produced by your liver. Without it your body could not function properly.

Creatine is a substance which is produced in our bodies by the liver. Small amounts are also present in some meats and fish. It can be purchased as a dietary supplement often used by body builders to increase muscle gain. Creatine causes muscles to draw in fluids, which results in larger muscles.

18. Diabetes

If your body is not capable of using insulin correctly, or when your pancreas is unable to produce it, you have diabetes. Insulin, a hormone, helps your body convert various foods into energy for your cells. When this doesn’t happen properly, your blood sugar (glucose) levels get too high, creating health risks.

19. Energy Expenditure

This refers to how much energy, in terms of calories, that you burn for physical activities as well as bodily functions such as food digestion, breathing and blood pumping through your body. You gain weight when your energy expenditure is less than the amount of calories you take in.

You abdominal muscles are actually made up of several different muscles. One of the larger, outer ones is the external oblique muscle. It goes from your 5th rib to your 12th rib. It is one of the muscles used to help you bend sideways and turn your upper body.

Fiber, sometimes referred to as cellulose or roughage, comes from the plant-based foods we eat. This carbohydrate is not broken down or digested after you eat it. It helps aid in the digestion of food by absorbing water and pushing the food through your intestines and colon.

Fructose is a type of simple sugar found in fruit, honey, various plants and some vegetables. Our bodies use it for energy. Although fructose has a low glycemic index, if consumed in large amounts your body will not be able to process it properly and instead will turn it into fat.

Gastric bypass is one of the most common types of weight loss surgery. The process involves reducing the size of your stomach and making it so that some food “bypasses” a section of your small intestine. As a result, you eat less food and your body absorbs less calories. This causes you to lose weight.

When you eat, your body breaks down the food into glucose for energy. Glucose is often referred to as blood sugar. Your blood transports the glucose to all the cells in your body. They in turn utilize it for energy or store it as fat for future use.

30. Glycemic Index

Different types of carbohydrates affect your body in different ways. The glycemic index (GI) is a rating system which ranks or measures the effect of different carbohydrate foods on your blood sugar levels. Foods with a low GI have less affect on your glucose than those with a high GI.
